OSAGE - Ruth A. Earles, 79, of Osage, died Monday (Jan. 1, 2001) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage of natural causes. Ruth was born March 21, 1921, in Kanawha, Iowa, the daughter of George and Anna (Albright) Riekens. Ruth was united in marriage to Hurshel L. Earles on Aug. 22, 1937, at Kanawha. The couple farmed near Crystal Lake, near Cresco, and at Little Cedar before moving to Osage in 1967. Ruth was a former Cub Scout den mother, and was known and admired for her crochet and craft work. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church, 819 Main St., Osage, with the Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan and the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Interment will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery in Little Cedar. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, and will continue one hour before services on Thursday at the church.

She is survived by her husband, Hurshel L. Earles of Osage; three daughters, Betty Jean Norrie of Rochester, Minn., Susan Campbell and her husband, John, of Harlan, and Linda Dawson and her husband, Paul, of Newton; three sons, Jerry Earles and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Independence, Keith Earles and his wife, Carol, of Traer, and Steven Earles of Mason City; one daughter-in-law, Clarice Earles of Rochester, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Riekens Sr. and his wife, Edna, of Forest City; and two sisters, Dorothy Hoppe and her husband, Art, of Winnebago, Minn., and Ethel Keller and her husband, Gene, of Britt. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Riekens; a son, Richard Earles; a daughter, Marjorie Earles; and a granddaughter, Cheri Earles. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
