Maude Abbas, daughter of Frank and Martha Ver Brugge, passed away at her home in Kanawha, Ia. late Tuesday evening, Sept. 3, 1974 following a lingering illness. She was born in The Netherlands [June 7, 1908] and was 66 years, 2 months and 26 days of age at the time of her death. She came with her parents to the United States in 1910, settling in Wright County and she lived in the Kanawha area since that time. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church and the Church Ladies Aid. She received her education in the rural schools of Wright County.
She was married to Fred Abbas January 17, 1939 in the Kanawha Christian Reformed parsonage. They farmed west of Kanawha until 1963, when they retired and moved to town. Mrs. Abbas is survived by her husband Fred of Kanawha, Ia.; 1 daughter, Mrs. Norman (Audrey) Mehl of Britt, Ia.; 3 sons, Donald and his wife Eleanor of Kanawha, Ia., Jerry and his wife Lucia of St. Louis, Mo., and Denis of Marshalltown, Ia.; 5 brothers, Adrian, Heis and John Ver Brugge, all of Kanawha, Ia., Pete and Joe Ver Brugge of Mason City, Ia.; 2 sisters, Marie Ver Brugge of Kanawha, Ia. and Mrs. Wendell (Pauline) Crawford of Traer, Ia.; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
