Services held for Tillie Verbrugge, 95, on Wed., April 11, in a snowstorm at Wright Christian Reformed Church

Funeral services for Tillie Verbrugge, 95, were held on Wed., April 11, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Wright Christian Reformed Church. Officiating was Pastor Chuck Walton. The organist was Virginia Christians. The congregational hymns were “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. The casket bearers were Gordon Roskamp, Paul Verbrugge, Doug Verbrugge, Mitchell Redenius, Rob Eekhoff and Rodney Lamfers. The ushers were Tim DeWaard and Steve Ruter. The interment was at Wright Christian Reformed Church Cemetery. The services were under the direction of the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home of Kanawha.

Tillie Verbrugge, 95, of Kanawha died on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Tillie, the daughter of Nick and Nellie (Beninga) Christians was born on Aug. 1, 1911, in Hancock County, Iowa. On Dec. 8, 1932, she was united in marriage to Heis Verbrugge at the home of her parents in rural Kanawha. They farmed and made their home in the Kanawha area. Following the death of her husband, Tillie moved into Kanawha and entered the Kanawha Community Home in September of 1998.
Tillie was a lifelong member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church.

Tillie is survived by five of her six children - Marjorie (Bernard) Roskamp, of Clarion, Nick (Rouletta) Verbrugge, of Kanawha, Donald (Deloris) Verbrugge, of Kanawha, Ruth (Robert) Eekhoff, of New Era, Michigan, and Lois (Roger) Lamfers, of Kanawha. She leaves a son-in-law, Kermit (Kristin) Redenius of Webster City. She leaves 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She is survived by three sisters - Henrietta (Art) Rietema of Kanawha, Nettie Assink of Kanawha, and Marguerite Hensel of Stockton, Illinois. She leaves sisters-in-law - Oralene Christian, Marjorie Christians and Mavis Christians, all of Kanawha. She also leaves her brother-in-law, John Verbrugge, of Kanawha; and her sister-in-law, Thelma Verbrugge, of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her husband Heis, in 1976; a daughter, Rose Redenius in 2003; her parents; sisters Tena Ruter and Minnie Rietema and brothers Edward, Herman, Elmer (Mike) and James Christians.
