Funeral services for Florence (Christians) Walhof were held Oct. 14, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton with Pastor Timothy Brown officiating. Tricia Van Ee, her granddaughter, was the soloist, and Jean brown was the organist. Seven of her grandchildren were pallbearers.

Florence Christians was born on March 23, 1915, to Chris and Hattie Christians in Wright County, Iowa. When Florence was a baby, the family moved to the Edgerton area where she attended school. On January 18, 1938, she married Peter Walhof, Jr. After renting farmland near Edgerton for a couple years, they purchased a farm near Hatfield in 1941, where they lived until their retirement in 1976. During her retirement, Florence spent many pleasant hours quilting and crocheting, making numerous treasures for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Edgerton.

Florence suffered a stroke at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, while quilting and talking to her daughter on the phone. She died on October 11, 2002, at the Pipestone County Medical Center. She leaves behind a loving family: her children Ed and Lisa Walhof of Spicer, Curt and Kathy Walhof of Edgerton, Karen Walhof of Minneapolis, Sue and Keith Van Ee of Pella, Iowa; her grandchildren, Cindy and Paul Varhol, Vicki and Mike Hofford, Stephanie and Glenn Zevenbergen, Steve and Brenda Walhof, Tricia Van Ee, Krystal Van Ee and her fiancé Ben Lefevre, and Kayla Timm; her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trent Varhol, Grant and Cole Zevenbergen, Anna and Samuel Walhof; and her sister, Ella De Poorter. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Peter; her parents; her brothers, Arnold, George, Henry and John, her sisters, Tena Zwart, Winifred Prins, and Norma Krosschell; two infant brothers and an infant sister.
