Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 11:00 a.m. for Vernon Lee Veldhouse at the United Methodist Church in Clarion. Rev. Myron Brockmeyer officiated at the services. Mrs. Paul Loomis offered comfort through music and provided organ accompaniment for soloist, Roy Crawford. Casket bearers were Vernus Bierl, Don Hanson, Terry Jackson, Roger Robinson, Tom Stewart and Jerry Tillman. Internment was in Amsterdam Cemetery, Kanawha, IA, with flag presentation and graveside services by the Clarion American Legion and V.F.W.
Vernon Lee Veldhouse was born on June 15, 1938, the only son of Nick and Fanny Abbas Veldhouse at Kanawha, Iowa and passed away in his sleep at his home in Union, Ohio January 24, 1976. After the death of his mother in Sept. 1940, he made his home with his grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Philip Veldhouse, and later with his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Veldhouse of Clarion. He graduated from the Clarion High School in 1956.
Vernon or "Butch" as his friends called him, served 4 years in the Navy and attended Eagle Grove Jr. College and Iowa State University in Ames. Since 1963 he has been employed by the A.C. Nielsen Co. and lived several years in the Boston, Mass. Area before moving to the Ohio area in 1972. On June 21, 1964 he was united in marriage to Edna Kaye Carroll at Clarion, Iowa and moved to Boston. To this union were born three children, Erik Freeman, Shawn Nicklas, and Rebecca Elizabeth, all at home. Other survivors other than his immediate family and parents include two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Duesenberg of Ventura and Mrs. Darrell (Beverly) Richardson of Lehigh, Iowa; three nephews and one niece, several uncles and aunts and many other relatives and friends.
