December 10, 1998David W. Eliason, 56, 2201 St. Celia St., died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Services also will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tenold Funeral Home Chapel, Belmond, Iowa, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Belmond American Legion.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1942, in Belmond, while the family lived in Kanawha, Iowa, son of Harold and Berneice (Lein) Eliason. He graduated from Kanawha High School and received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, Ames. He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1966-69. Mr. Eliason began his radio career at KMRI at Iowa State University while a student. He also worked at KASI, Ames, KWBG, Boone, Iowa, and at WOI-TV Station, Ames. Upon returning from military service, he worked in Mason City, Iowa, for KSMN Radio. He came to Dubuque to work at KDTH radio in the early 1970s as a newscaster. He later established Mobile Music Machines Co. and DEPA sound systems. He was currently the assignment editor of KDFX channel 40 in Dubuque. He was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, the National Association of Audio Engineers and the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque.
Surviving are a sister, Arlene Eliason, of Minot, N.D.; and many cousins. Memorials may be given to the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps and the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra.
