MORTON, IL - Jesse Vernon Hasty, 82, of Napa, Calif., formerly of Morton, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at his residence. Born May 4, 1921, in Kanawha, Iowa, to Jesse V. Sr. and Esther Smith Hasty, he married Dee Pitts. She survives. Also surviving are three stepdaughters, Terry Conn, Dawn Conn-Byron and Betsy North; one stepson, Scott North; one brother, Robert of Morton; one sister, Marjorie Kerns of Humboldt, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater as a sergeant in Gen. George S. Patton's Third Army, 71st Infantry Division. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Morton. He worked in the advertising departments of newspapers in Peoria, Pasco, Wash., Concord, Calif., Walnut Creek, Calif., and Napa, Calif., retiring in 1986. He was a member of professional associations in Northern California and the Napa Valley Country Club.

Cremation has been accorded. Services will be private. Tulocay Cemetery and Crematory in Napa is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Molly's Angels, 3012 Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94558 or to Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, CA 94589.
