Lewis Victor Prelip of Mt. Gilead, South Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 5, 2006. Born in Kanawha, Iowa on Aug. 29, 1931 to Frank and Julie Prelip, Lou made a career in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years. He was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran. Lou retired in 1975 as a Chief Master Sergeant. After retiring, he entered into the electronic business in Surfside Beach with his friend Elbert Vann. A year later they entered into the restaurant business, which developed into ''Luvan's Old South Fish Camp Restaurant.'' The restaurant enjoyed a great local patronage and has served many celebrities including Mickey Spillane, Ruth Roman, Gov. Carroll Campbell and many others. Upon retiring from the restaurant, he published ''Luvan's Old South Fish Camp Restaurant Cookbook.'' Lou was a member of the Moose, Elks, American Legion and VFW, all of Murrells Inlet.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice; and son, Mark. Surviving are his wife, Karen; daughters, Andrea and husband, Steve Ellwood, and Lindy and husband, Bob Hitchcock and their two children, Michael and Kate; two stepsons, Daniel and wife, Penny Winters of Garden City and children Alaina and Sarah, and John and his wife, Mindy Winters and their four children, Bryant, Ashley, Brandon and Anna of Clermont, Ga.; brothers, Leo Prelip, his identical twin and wife, Marlene, of Mariposa, Calif., Paul Prelip and wife, Helen, of York, Pa., and Guy Prelip and wife, Maybelle, of Carrolton, Texas; sisters, Frances Wilson of Lake Isabella, Calif., Oona Nessa of Britt, Iowa and Nelda Prelip of Britt, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with Chaplain Laurie McAlpine officiating. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 North Frazier St., Georgetown, SC 29440. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
