Ellen Cecelia Derscheid, the daughter of Maurice and Cecilia (Weiss) Mitchell, was born July 5, 1941, in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1959. She continued her education in Minneapolis, in Medical Lab Tech training. Ellen was united to marriage to Ronald Derscheid on February 24, 1968, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Ellen worked at Trinity Regional Medical Center as a Lab Technician. After marriage, Ellen was a homemaker and worked on the farm with Ron, and did all of the mowing at the farm. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving with the Esther Circle, and the United Methodist Church of Eagle Grove.

Ellen passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at her home in Eagle Grove at the age of 67 years. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Bill Mitchell. Survivors include her husband, Ron Derscheid of Eagle Grove; son, David Derscheid of Eagle Grove; mother, Cecilia Mitchell of Fort Dodge; sisters, Mary Kapustka of Fort Dodge, Katherine Douglas of Kansas City and JoAnn Mitchell of Fort Dodge; many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews in Fort Dodge as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2008, 10:30 A.M. at United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor L. J. Hartley officiating. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the United Methodist Women of Eagle Grove.
