Funeral services for Eloise Shearer, 105, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Tom Van Tassell will officiate the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Mrs. Shearer passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Eloise Clair Shearer, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Fults) Smiley, was born Feb. 14, 1902, in Clarion. She received her early education and graduated in Stanwood. Eloise then attended and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught first grade for four years in the communities of Rockwell City, New Hartford and Grundy Center. Eloise married Austin M. Shearer on July 15, 1925 in Independence. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. Eloise was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, Evening Shade Chapter No. 116 Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Spencer Hospital Auxillary, Daughters of American Revolution and the Federated Woman's Club. In her spare time, Eloise enjoyed reading and camping.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Austin; her daughter, Patricia Birchard; and two sisters. Eloise is survived by her grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
