Dale Prentice Anderson, Newkirk, Oklahoma resident, died early Tuesday afternoon in the Newkirk Nursing Center. He was 89. The son of Arthur Peter and Sara Isoline (Bell) Anderson, Dale was born July 14, 1918 in Primghar, Iowa. He grew up and received his education in Primghar, graduating from high school there. He then attended Iowa State University, studying engineering. After a year he left and returned to the family business, Anderson Hatchery, in Primghar.

On Dec. 25, 1941 Dale and Marjorie Louise Beebe were married in Clarion, Iowa. They established their first home in Primghar. On Sept. 11, 1942 Dale entered the United States Army Air Corps. The new Mrs. Anderson traveled with her husband while he served. On Jan. 31, 1945 he was Honorably Discharged after serving as a pilot with the armed forces. Following his discharge the couple returned to Primghar and helped his father with the hatchery. Later he bought the business from his father and expanded to include a large hog and chicken feed business. He operated this business until his retirement. In 1996 the couple moved to Pauls Valley. His wife died there on May 14, 2002. He moved to Newkirk in 2004, and in Aug. 2006 he moved to The Renaissance assisted living residence in Ponca City. In Dec. 2007 he moved to the Newkirk Nursing Center. Dale was a life long member of the Methodist denomination, and he served as treasurer of his church for a number of years. He served 16 years as a member of the board of trustees for the Baum Harmon Memorial Hospital and 22 years on the Primghar Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the city council and served on the public library board. He was a member of the Primghar Chamber of Commerce and was selected as Man of the Year twice. He was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed the flying club and flying his own planes. He raised American saddle bred horses. He enjoyed music, especially jazz and classical. Dale was a self-taught man, respected by his community and much loved by his family.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert James and Jill Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharl Gwen and Douglas Taylor of Newkirk and Sara Gail Boyd of Naples, Fla.; one brother, Weston Anderson of Boothbay Harbor, Maine; one sister and brother-in-law, Norene and Jim Elliott of Rochester, Minn.; and three grandchildren, Eric and Melanie Taylor, missionaries serving near Beirut, Lebanon, Nathan Taylor of Pauls Valley and Matthew Anderson of Cedar Rapids. In addition to Marjorie, his wife of 61 years, Dale was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lowell Anderson; and one sister, Nancy Anderson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 in the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Chapel of Primghar, Iowa with the Rev. Cory Flanagan, minister of the United Church of Primghar officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Primghar under the direction of Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home. Newkirk arrangements were under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service. A memorial fund has been established with the First United Methodist Church of Newkirk, Rebuilding Fund. Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk, Okla.
