GLENN AND DORIS SORENSEN

HUMBOLDT — Memorial services for Doris and Glenn Sorensen of Des Moines will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Inurnment will be prior to the services at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Humboldt with full military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119.

Doris Lindhart, the daughter of Lawrence and Esther (Blomker) Lindhart, was born September 29, 1925 at Humboldt. She received her education at Humboldt and Graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943.

Glenn Sorensen, the son of Peter B. and Martha C. (Nielsen) Sorensen, was born February 22, 1925 on a farm near Bradgate. He received his education and graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1942. He then farmed with his father until enlisting into the United States Navy during World War II. Following his honorable discharge he returned home.

The couple was united in marriage on May 23, 1944 at Eagle Grove and they made their home in Weaver Township, Humboldt County where they farmed until 1965. Following his retirement from farming, Glenn went into the implement business at Marengo and Lincoln, Iowa. He then worked for a private appraisal firm and finally for the State of Iowa as a commercial appraiser for the Iowa Department of Revenue. Doris assisted Glenn in the private appraisal business until going to work for the Equitable Insurance Company in Des Moines. Following the couple’s retirement in 1988, they made their home briefly in Humboldt before returning to Des Moines. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and traveling the country together in their fifth wheel camper.

The Sorensen’s are survived by their children, Glenda Sorensen of Colorado Springs, CO, Charles (Mary) Sorensen of Marion, Iowa, and Barbara (Don) Byrd of Virginia; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; her brother, Norman Lindhart of Jefferson; her sisters, Ruth Wooster of Eagle Grove, and Kathy Williams of Bonita, California; and his sister, Phyllis Mather of Madelia, MN. They were preceded in death by their parents; her sister, Frances Taylor; and his sister, Joyce Vought.
