John Junior Govern, the son of John and Ella (Trenary) Govern, was born June 4, 1929, in Bancroft, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from St. John’s School in Bancroft. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1951, receiving his B.S. in Animal Science. John was united in marriage to Yvonne (Bonnie) Neppl on September 11, 1954, at Saint Bernard’s Church in Breda, Iowa.

John worked for the Farmers Home Administration in Clarion before working for Security Savings Bank for 28 years, serving as Executive Vice President. He retired in 1991. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce, Ruffles and Spurs Square Dance Club, and served as President of the Wright County Fair for several years. He was a long time fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones. John loved to dance, play golf and spend time with his family.

John passed away June 10, 2008, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe and sister, Delores. John is survived by his wife Bonnie of Eagle Grove; three children, Rick Govern (Linda) of Burlington, Iowa, Kathy Moore (Doug) of Plattsburg, Missouri and Dave Govern of Eagle Grove; grandchildren, Ryan Moore (Andrea), Sara Moore Skelton (Andrew), Janelle Cross (Todd) and Justin Reichter (Kari); great grandchildren, Landis Cross and Peyton Reichter; brother, Tom Govern (June) of New Lenox, Illinois; four sisters, Pat Mathre (Roger) of Nora Springs, Iowa, Phyllis Krause (Bob) of Mason City, Iowa, Jean Govern of Mason City, Iowa and Priscilla DeGeeter (Melvin) of Champagne, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Paul Lippstock officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
