CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — Gladys Eloise Hollis, formerly of Clarion, passed into eternal rest on June 2, 2008, while living in Chesterfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marion Hollis and her parents, Earnest and Mary Frakes. Gladys was born on a farm near Woolstock. She attended a one room schoolhouse for elementary grades and graduated from Woolstock High School in 1934, as a valedictorian. She graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls and went on to teach eight grades at a one room school house in Wright County and later she was a substitute teacher in the Woolstock City Schools. She and Marion were married in 1937 and began farming near Webster City. For many years they farmed near Woolstock before moving into Clarion. Gladys worked at Morton Frozen Foods in Webster City and at Clarion Care Center for many years.

Surviving family includes: William and Marlyce Hollis, Dunnelion, Fla.; Gail and Gary Sloan, New York City; Robert and Kathleen Hollis, Canton, Conn.; William Hollis, Hartford, Conn.; Carolyn Sue and Howard Sandberg, Chesterfield, Mo.; Eric and Elaine Sandberg, Ballwin, Mo. Great-grandchildren include: Kristin Sloan, Riley and Daniel Hollis, Austin and Alexis Hollis, Thomas and Jonathan Sandberg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Clarion for the Hollis Nursing Scholarship Fund, 201 3rd Ave. NE, Clarion, IA 50525. Funerals services are pending at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.
