Vernon V. McLaughlin, Sr., 89, died Friday, September 29, 2000, at Muse Norris Hospice House in Mason City. A funeral Mass will be Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Vernon Vincent McLaughlin, Sr., the son of William and Catherine (DeHeck) McLaughlin, was born January 8, 1911, near Churchville in Warren County. He attended the Catholic school in Churchville until the family moved to Belmond in 1920. He graduated from the Belmond High School. He was united in marriage to Mildred D. N. Lemke. They farmed in Rural Belmond their entire life.
Vernon was active with the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of St. Francis Zavier Catholic Church. He was a proud man with three great passions in life: his God, his farm and his family. He leaves behind his beloved family to carry on and remember him with the great love and admiration, three sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
