Jacob Kenneth Baker, the son of Jacob Martin and Olga (Johnson) Baker, was born October 3, 1933 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1951. He attended Eagle Grove Junior College after Military in 1956. Jacob enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1951. He served with the Fleet Marine Forces Pacific in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Jacob began his civilian career as an Insurance Underwriter, moving into a management position with General Casualty Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, Iowa. Jacob was confirmed at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and was an active member of the Lutheran Churches in the cities he resided. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Lincoln, NE. Jacob enjoyed golf and fishing. He was united in marriage to Margaret Rifen in 1955. They later divorced.
Jacob passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, in Perry, Iowa at the age of 74 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Biondahl and two infant siblings. Survivors include his sons; Jacob Martin Baker, II and Matthew Baker, both of Florida; 2 Granddaughters, his brother Robert Baker of Clarinda, Larry (Joan) Baker of Eagle Grove, Janis Haugland (Mel) of Eagle Grove and Thomas A. Baker of Chickasaw, OK, several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Foust Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Stone officiating. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorial may be left to the discretion of the family.
