Eagle Grove--Constance Carr McCutcheon, the daughter of Arthur and Inez (Overholt) Carr, was born February 12, 1917 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Connie attended the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and taught school in several cities in Iowa. During World War II she taught school in Cedar Rapids, and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she received her Masters Degree. After the war, she taught in an Oil Company School in Venezuela for one year. Connie then taught at the Iowa Teachers College to fill vacancies when needed. She started studying for her Doctorate at the University of Minnesota for one year, then moved to Washington DC to work with the Association of Childhood Education, International, editing their magazine Childhood Education. Connie then attended the Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City where she received her Doctorate Degree.

On September 12, 1958, she married Everett McCutcheon at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. They lived on the farm in the Evergreen area. In 1966, she was a professor at Iowa Central Community College where she taught at the Fort Dodge and Eagle Grove campuses until 1976, when she retired. In 1988, she moved to the Rotary Ann Retirement Homes. Connie was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church, Equality Club in Eagle Grove and Evergreen Women’s Association. She was a tutor for children, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and card clubs.

Connie passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Wright Medical Center, at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Everett in 2001, step son, William Everett in infancy, twin brothers, Roderick and Roger and sons in law, Russell Dodge and Paul Jacobson. Survivors include her step-daughters, Barb Dodge and Bev Jacobson; grandchildren, Sue White (Dave) of Eagle Grove, Jolene Jacobson of Grimes, Steve Dodge (Amy) of Eagle Grove and Bill Dodge (Kelly) of Webster City; great grandchildren, Angela Beck (Jeremy) of Boone, Stacey Lesher (Doug) of Boone, Katie White of Eagle Grove, and Kristine Dodge, Brittney Dodge, Zachary Dodge all of Webster City and 2 great-great grandchildren, Hunter and Taylor Beck of Boone.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield, with Reverend Karen Dearchs officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 14, from 5:30 p.m .to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Memorial may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
