Patricia “Pat” Ann Harty was born on July 6, 1935, in Rowan, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph “Mac” and Marjorie E. (Courtney) Thomas. She attended rural country school in the Hampton area, graduating from Hampton High School. After completing her schooling she worked in the Hampton area until her marriage. She was united in marriage to Richard D. Harty on November 15, 1958, in Hampton, Iowa. After their marriage she was a stay at home mom where she loved and cared for her family. The family resided in Davenport, Tipton and Hampton before moving to Mason City in the mid 60’s. Pat worked in the business office for the Mason City School district for 29 years until her retirement in May 2005. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and canning fruits and vegetables, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and friends. No one was ever a stranger for very long as she enjoyed visiting and making new friends. She was a very giving, caring, and accepting person who always found the good in every one she met. She had a very strong faith in God, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Richard D. Harty of Mason City; her children, Thomas R. Harty of Mason City, Timothy E. Harty and wife Melody of Nora Springs, Ann E. Harty of Mason City, Donald J. Harty and wife Penny of Clear Lake, and Daniel J. Harty and wife Margaret of Mason City; her mother, Marjorie E. Grabbe of Hampton; five grandchildren, Stacy Jo, Cole Richard, Macy Lin, Jack Thomas, and Isabelle Neal Harty; two sisters, Cheryll Kayser and husband George of Agency, Iowa, and Linda Jerome and husband Joe of Fort Dodge, Iowa; a brother-in-law; Dan Simon of Parkersburg, Iowa; as well as other relatives and friends. Pat also loved her two special friends, her dog Sammy and her cat. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph “Mac” Thomas, her stepfather, Fred Grabbe, and a sister, Jane Simon.
