NORA SPRINGS, IA - Trudy M. Sheckler, 87, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Nora Springs, died Sunday (April 6, 2008) at the Scottsdale Hospice of the Valley Eckstin Center in Scottsdale, Ariz. A visitation was held today, Thursday, April 10, prior to the funeral mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Phoenix, Ariz. A visitation and prayer service in conjunction with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary for Trudy will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City officiating. Graveside side services will follow at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs. The family of Trudy M. Sheckler has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions are to be sent to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3801 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85032, (C/O Blessed Sacrament Chapel Angel Fund).

Trudy M. Sheckler was born on Nov. 28, 1920, in Clarion, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Pick) Michels. Trudy graduated from Clarion High School, and than worked for Bell Telephone Co. in Mason City. She was united in marriage to Loren "Tuffy" Sheckler on July 11, 1946, in Clarion. Trudy owned and operated Sheckler Interior in Nora Springs for many years and assisted her husband in the Sheckler Funeral Home. She was active in Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City as an organist, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, North Iowa Girl Scouts and the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1982, Trudy and her husband moved to Scottsdale, where she worked for the Arizona Shutters and the Arizona Restaurant Association. Prior to her short illness she was active in the St. Joan of Arc Seniors group, enjoyed traveling with her family, and community outings with her friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Janey Dahl and Vicki Sheckler, and son-in-law, Donavon Dahl, all of Phoenix, as well as many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren "Tuffy" Sheckler, on April 11, 1996; and her brother, Edward Michels.
