Mrs. Ray (Joanna) Sorensen, 78, 1990 Avalon Road, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 1996, at home. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Egelhof-Casper-Strueber Funeral Home, 1145 Locust St., and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

She was born on July 25, 1917, in Clarion, Iowa, daughter of Laurence and Christene (Larsen) Henriksen. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Sunshine Circle for 32 years, T.T.T. Society, PEO Chapter IK, and a former member of the Visiting Nurse Association Board. She was a resident of Dubuque since 1947, and was an avid bridge player.

Surviving are her husband, Ray; two sisters, Helen McPhail, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Phyllis Borel, of Clarion; two brothers, John Henriksen, of East Moline, Ill., and Larry Henriksen, of New Albany, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Dennis and Gary Alvin; her parents; and a sister. Memorials may be given to First Congregational United Church of Christ.
