Phyllis F. Smith, 85, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2002) at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Bradgate, Iowa, she came here in 1946 from Clarion, Iowa. She was the former owner of a beauty shop in St. Petersburg and was a Protestant. Survivors include a son, Michael D. Jones, St. Petersburg; a daughter, Mary Ann Mechem, Clarion, Iowa; two sisters, Patricia Myers, Austin, Texas, and Wanda Watkins, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. E.
