November 2, 1989A memorial service for Charles Dale Shearer will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Grace Community Church in Gresham. He died Sunday in a Portland hospital of respiratory failure due to rheumatoid spondylitis. He was 79. Disposition will be by cremation. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Shearer was born Feb. 4, 1910, in Goldfield, Iowa. He moved to Portland in 1928 and worked in construction. He was a worker for the Parker Schramm Construction Co. for 30 years. He then worked as a field supervisor for Charles T. Parker Construction Co. Later he worked as a field supervisor for Vala Construction Co., retiring in 1978.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret I. of Portland; daughter, Margaret Ann Hagedorn of Portland; son, Leslie S. of Tigard; sister, Vivian Engstrom of Humboldt, Iowa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the American Cancer Society's Oregon chapter.
