Mason City Globe-GazetteBELMOND -Donna Mae Traeger, 67, passed away Friday (Dec. 10, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, with the Rev. Janet Wearda officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and will resume one hour prior to services Tuesday.
Donna, the daughter of Peter and Edna Berghefer Kroeger, was born May 12, 1932, on a farm near Schleswig. At an early age Donna moved with her family to Belmond where she attended country schools and Belmond schools. The family later moved to Meservey where Donna graduated from Meservey High School in 1950. Donna was united in marriage with Carl Traeger on Sept. 20, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. The couple made their home on a farm east of Belmond where Donna worked as a housewife and mother. She actively helped Carl farm, sometimes driving a tractor or operating other machinery. After moving to a farm northwest of Belmond, Donna worked for a time at Ben Franklin, Olinger's Florist and the Little Flower Shop in Belmond. She enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls and often sewed outfits for the dolls. She also enjoyed working with flowers and crafts. Donna was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Donna is survived by her husband, Carl; three daughters, Kathryn Quam of Belmond, Lorie Halsne and her husband, Richard, of Thornton, and Christa Traeger of Phoenix, Ariz.; five sons, Keith and his wife, Karen, of Eagle Grove, James and his wife, Elizabeth, of Grundy Center, Larry and his wife, Deb, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Kevin and his wife, Joni, of Eagle Grove, and Craig and his wife, Dawn, of Renwick; her mother, Edna Kroeger of Belmond; 18 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; three great-grandchildren; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter, in 1995, and a daughter, Debra. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond
