Robert R. Reed, the son of Albert and Bertha (Stanley) Reed, was born on September 11, 1931, in Wright County, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Iowa and Missouri. He joined the Army on July 13, 1950, and served in Company C, 8th Cavalry Regiment. He was awarded the Purple Heart during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to B. Eilene Butrum on November 21, 2001, at Winterset, Iowa. He enjoyed the outdoors, walking in timberland; gardening and cutting wood. He worked in construction and was an over the-road semi owner-operator. He was very active in the Baptist Faith.
Robert Reed died on Monday, April 28, 2008, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C., at the age of 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester Reed, and three sisters, Bernice Wergeland, Olive Werstein and Betty Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Eilene, of South Carolina; daughters, Bonnie Kay of Kansas, and Sandy of Missouri; step-children, Becky Crafts, of Taft, Calif., David Wolfe, Des Moines, Iowa, and Beverly Dailey of Lexington, S.C.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; Mel Haugland (Jan) of Eagle Grove, Gene Haugland (Delle) of Mesa, Ariz.;, Myron Haugland (Margaret) of Humboldt, Shirley Fisher (Gene) of Geneseo, Ill., Donna White (Jim) of Hardy, and Marvin Wergeland (Deloris) of Hardy; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Friday, May 2, at 10 a.m., at the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa, with Pastor Jerry Newland officiating. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements
