Richard "Dick" Akin
TEXAS CITY — Dick Akin, 90, of Texas City passed away March 30, 2008. Dick was born February 2, 1918, in Goldfield, Iowa, the son of Louis L. Akin and Clara Mae Olson Akin. Dick is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary; his son Mike; his daughter Elaine, son-in-law Richard; four grandchildren, Brook, Blake, Ebanie, and Talitha; two great grandchildren, Carson and Camryn and one future grandson, Hayden. Dick’s career in retail women’s clothing “Akin’s Fashions, Inc.,” gave him the flexibility to be a transporter of burn child victims from the airport in Houston to the Shriner’s Childrens Burn Center in Galveston making him very dear to the hearts of countless families.
Dick was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Texas City. Dick was a member of many fraternal organizations, Past Director of Royal Order of Jestures Court 97, El Mina Shrine Galveston (Motor Patrol, Transportation Corps, Drum and Bugle Corps, and Roadrunners), York Rite Masons, Scottish Rite Masons, Masonic Lodge # 1325 of La Marque and La Marque Elks Lodge #2141 and The American Legion.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at St John’s United Methodist Church located at 1432 16th Avenue North, Texas City, TX., 77590, with Pastor Deborah Proctor, officiating. Entombment at the Houston National Cemetery will be a later date.
