TORVESTAD, KNUDSEN, RASMUSDATTER, RASMUSSEN, CHRISTIANSON

Ragnvald Torvestad, son of Eli Oline Rasmusdatter and Lars Knudsen Torvestad, was born April 4, 1885 at Torvestad, Norway, and died Saturday, December 26, 1981, at 9:25 p.m. at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 22 days. He received his education in Norway and came to the United States at the age of 17 years old and lived at the A. O. Rasmussen home north of Ellsworth. On September 18, 1918, he was married to Margaret Christianson at the A.O. Rasmussen home by Pastor Paulsrud. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. In 1920 the family moved to Pipestone, Minnesota, and in 1946 to Foreston, Minnesota where he farmed. Three years ago he went to Eagle Grove and has made his home at the Rotary Ann Home.
He is survived by a brother-in-law, Harold O Christianson, Story City, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Christianson of Ames. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Knute; two sisters, Kaia and Inger; and his wife who died in 1976.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, December 29, at 1:30 p.m. at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Rev. Orville Sanderson of Story City officiated and burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell. Alvern Ellwood, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Harry Harmon, sang "Abide With Me" and "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se".
Pallbearers were Wayne Samuelson, Lloyd Buckels, Sr., Lloyd Buckels, Jr., Alfred Stout, Lee Davis, and Ernest Christianson. Ben Mortvedt was an honorary pallbearer.ca. December 1981
