Minnie E. Davidson, of LuVerne, died on Friday, August 9, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center in Algona. She was 109. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 12, at the United Methodist Church of LuVerne. The Rev. Dale Reisner officiated. Music was provided by organist, Dennis Holmes who accompanied soloist, Dan Smith and several congregational hymns. Burial was in the LuVerne Cemetery. Casket bearers were Tom Froehlich, Ralph Davidson, William Wickett, Lee Froehlich, Marlin Gregerson and LeRoy Weber. The Gerry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of LuVerne was in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie Esther Davidson, was born on December 18, 1892 at Bogota, Illinois, to John and Lucinda (Shew) Chesnut. She was the seventh child of a family of 11. She attended country school to the eighth grade. She was married to Ralph T. Davidson on December 23, 1914 in Newton, Illinois. The couple came to Iowa and settled in the Goldfield area in March of 1915 and started farming.

A daughter, Marvel, was born on September 24, 1916. In 1918, the family moved to LuVerne and farmed north of town. A son, Gordon, was born on May 19, 1918 and another son, Vernon Eugene was born on August 12, 1932 at Fort Dodge. They continued to live on the farm until 1960 when they moved into LuVerne.

Funeral services for Minnie Esther Davidson, 109, were Monday, Aug. 12, (2002) at United Methodist Church, LuVerne, with the Rev. Dale Reisner officiating. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, LuVerne, was in charge of arrangements.

Minnie was born Dec. 18, 1892, at Bogota, Ill., to John and Lucinda Shew Chesnut. She was the seventh child from a family of 11. Minnie attended country school to the eighth grade. She was married to Ralph T. Davidson on Dec. 23, 1914, in Newton, Ill. The couple came to Iowa, settled in the Goldfield area in March 1915, and started farming. A daughter, Marvel, was born on Sept. 24, 1916. In 1918, Ralph and Minnie moved to LuVerne and farmed north of town. On May 19, 1918, a son, Gordon, was born. On Aug. 12, 1932, another son, Vervon Eugene, was born at the Fort Dodge Hospital. Ralph and Minnie continued to live on the farm until 1960 when they moved into LuVerne. Minnie's husband, Ralph, preceded her in death on May 16, 1979.

Minnie was a member of the LuVerne United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and when on the farm, she had belonged to the Neighborhood Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning and growing flowers.

Minnie became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Algona on Aug. 18, 1982. She died there on Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the age of 109.

Minnie is survived by a daughter, Marvel Eggleston, Graettinger, and her two sons, Gordon Davidson and wife, Evelyn, of Algona, and Vervon Davidson and wife, Gloria, Iowa Falls. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 44 step great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers and four sisters.
