He was accepted and received his doctorate degree, cum laude, from Illinois School of Podiatric Medicine and Foot Surgery in Chicago. While attending school, he was employed by the Illinois Masonic Hospital until he opened his private practice in Storm Lake in November of 1951. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He was involved in civic organizations such as Hy-Noon Kiwanis, Airport Commission, as well as being an advocate for Methodist Manor. He was an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association for 50 years and served on the Iowa State Board of Podiatric Examiners from 1980 to 1986.
