BRITT - Emogene Ardell Grandstaff, 81, passed away Thursday (Aug. 26, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.

Emogene, the daughter of Floyd Sr. and Loraine Carr Rummel, was born April 21, 1918, at Dows. She attended school in the Dows area and graduated from Williams High School in 1935. She attended Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating on June 4, 1942. She served with the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II as a Second Lieutenant, serving in the European Theatre and the Anzio Beach Landing. She was discharged from the Army on July 15, 1943, and moved to Britt in 1958. She was formerly married to Forrest Grandstaff, of North Platte, Neb.

Emogene is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Suarez, and her children, Tino and Cristy, of Spartanburg, S.D.; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Rummel, of Saratoga, Wyo.; three nieces; and two nephews; and a great-uncle in California. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, James and Floyd.
