January 14, 2002COKATO, Minn. -Martha Helene Iverson was born Jan. 28, 1912, to Jacob and Clara (Hage) Knutsen in Macroon, N.D. She passed away January 2, 2002, in Cokato, Minn., following a stroke suffered on Christmas Day. At the age of two weeks Martha moved with her family to Scarville, Iowa, where she was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She later moved to Hanlontown, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1929. After attending Waldorf College in Forest City and State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Martha taught school in Hanlontown and Fredricksburg. On June 6, 1938, she married Clair Iverson. They made their home in Lake View for 16 years, Milford for 12 years, and in Dows for 30 years. They wintered in Arizona for each of the 19 years following Clair's retirement. Martha moved into the Maple Court apartments in Northwood, Iowa, in 1997.
Martha was blessed with four sons, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren: Jon, Karen, Valerie and Kevin of Medford, Ore., Paul and Mary of Annandale, Minn., Roger, Lynn, Carla and Denny of Bellingham, Wash., David, Carol and Scott of Independence, Iowa, Jason and Michelle Nick (Traci, Grant, Austin and Noah) of Becker, Minn., Eric and Jenny Iverson (Tanner, Alexis and Chloe) of Dassel, Minn., Marc and Sarah Iverson (Emily) of Bird Island, Minn., and Dustin and Amy Avery of Waterloo, Iowa. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clair; brother, James; and sister, Hazel.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, at First Lutheran Church, Dows. Burial will be in the Dows Cemetery. Dingmann Funeral Care
