Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazetteBOONEVILLE, IA — Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at the Fisher-Aldrich Funeral Home, Waukee, for Richard Lee Carpenter, 58, of Booneville. The Rev. Tim Johnson officiated and burial was in the Booneville Cemetery. He died of cancer on Dec. 31, 1998, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999 at the Fisher-Aldrich Funeral Home.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1940, at Dows, to Elmer Wallace and Caroline Alice (Bennewitz) Carpenter. He attended school in Clarion. Mr. Carpenter married Patricia Campbell on Dec. 14, 1968, in Adel. He had lived in Waukee before moving to Booneville 28 years ago. He was a metal fabricator for Mid-Iowa Solid Waste Equipment Co. in Johnston before his death. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and went to school at the Great Lakes Naval Base from 1961 through June of 1968. He was a member of George A. Aldinger Post 183 American Legion of Hampton.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Booneville; a son, Kevin, of Booneville; two brothers, Wallace, of Dows, and Carl, of Dallas Center; three sisters, Karen (Lowell) Gaulke, of Mt. Pleasant, Kathy (Martin) Wearda, of Hampton, and Arlis (Jerry) Mapes, of Swan. Other family members and friends came from Dallas, Texas, Cottage Grove, Minn., Apple Valley, Minn., Hannibal, Mo., Mitchellville, Madrid, Johnston, Swan, Dallas Center, Sturat, Grimes, Hampton, Des Moines, Van Meter, Booneville, Waukee, and Adel, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
