HAMPTON -- C. Duane Johnson, 72, died Saturday (Dec. 14, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Masonic rights will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Aredale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery with military rights. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral
home.

C. Duane Johnson was born in Dows on May 24, 1924, the son of Clifford and Edith (Williams) Johnson. He attended and received his education in Iowa Falls and graduated from Popejoy. He was a World War II Army veteran. Following the service he returned to Dows and was employed at the Ralston Purina Plant, and later for Franklin County. He was united in marriage to Lois Oneta Zimmerman on June 30, 1951 in the Aredale Methodist Church. He continued to work for Franklin County until he became engaged in farming in the Aredale area. He farmed until he retired in 1989. Duane was a dedicated member of the Aredale United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school and served on several boards, including the building committee. He was an active member of the Vulcan Lodge AMAF of Bristow. He took his Scottish Rites in Cedar Rapids and then entered into the Shrine where he was active in El Kahir motorcycle unit. He also belonged to the Greene Legion. He served on community elevator boards, phone boards, was a 4-H leader, and on numerous boards in the community. His hobbies included woodworking and fishing. He greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Johnson of Hampton; three children and their spouses, Pam and Dave Rusinack of Sheffield, Mark and Penny Johnson of Greene, and Kent and Kelly Johnson of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Nathan and Nicole Rusinack of Sheffield, Cale and Cie Ann Johnson of Greene, Alex and Lauren Johnson of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Harold Johnson and his wife, Maxine, of Loveland, Colo., and Robert Johnson and his wife, Muriel, of Iowa Falls; and one sister, Pat Schumacher and her husband, LaVerne, of Alden; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
