MASON CITY - Marie R. Leake, 81, 2311 North Carolina, died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour before service time at the funeral home.

Marie was born in Dows on Oct. 12, 1920, the daughter of Oscar Paul and Margaret (Ross) Hackbarth. She spent the first nine years of her childhood in Dows until 1929, when she moved to Brownsdale, Minn. In 1938 she graduated from the Austin School District in Minnesota. In 1940 she moved to Chicago, where she lived during WWII, and in 1946 moved to Mason City. On March 20, 1948, Marie Hackbarth was united in marriage to Donald Leake at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Marie enjoyed sitting out on her porch and using oils to paint the beautiful nature that surrounded their house. In her later years so enjoyed dining at the Royal Fork.

Marie will be remembered as a loving wife to Donald Leake, of Mason City; mother of Paul Donald Leake of Mason City; grandmother of three, Steven Leake of Manly, Bryon Leake of Austin, Minn., and Erin Leake of Manly; an aunt of four; a brother-in-law of Brooke Frase. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Margaret Hackbarth; and one sister, Margaret L. Frase. Fullerton Funeral Home
