16 October 1952Belmond - Ernest W. Luick, 83, passed away at his home on Sunday, Oct. 5, after an illness of many months. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Rev. A. B. McKeith officiated and Boone Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers Floyd, Robert and Richard Brooks of Waverly and Gerald McNulty, Andy Lieuwen and Henry Larsen of Belmond. Burial was in Belmond Cemetery.
Ernest "Ern" as he was known by his acquaintances, was born in 1869 and was the son of William and Rose Luick. He was one of Belmond's oldest residents, having lived in this community his entire life with the exception of four years and received his schooling at the local school. In 1897 he married Grace Glidden of Alden and to this union were born four children: Helen, Mrs. Donald McNulty of Belmond and William H. Luick of Eldora. A son, Roland, died in infancy, and a son, Howard, was fatally injured when a high school senior in 1921 by being run over by a car. Mr. Luick was active in community affairs, serving as city assessor for 26 years and was on the school board several terms and also as a member of the city council. He was a member of King Solomon Lodge and the Congregational Church.
Surviving are his widow; his son and daughter and two grandchildren, Karen and Linda Luick, and one sister, Cora Evans of Concord, Calif. Burial in the City Cemetery in Belmond.
