Darwin Erwin Ohlerking was born on December 23, 1929, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Fred and Leona Fern (Mosher) Ohlerking. He attended Eagle Grove Schools. Following his education, Darwin enlisted in the United States Air Force and had served in both the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam.
Darwin was united in marriage to Josephine Busche on September 5, 1952, in Ogden, Utah. While serving in the Air Force Darwin had lived in Utah, Guam, Michigan, and Pakistan. In 1968 Darwin retired and returned to Eagle Grove. Darwin and Josephine owned and operated Ohlerking Upholstery in Eagle Grove for several years and he also worked as a leather artist. Darwin enjoyed golfing, biking, reading, and loved music.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Ohlerking of Eagle Grove, Iowa; children, Paul and his partner Terry Schlaak of Des Moines, Iowa, Darwin Patrick and his wife Cindy Ohlerking of Charles City, Iowa, Karen and her husband Brad Sargent of Ames, Iowa, Laura and her husband Gary Thomas of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Fred Ohlerking and his partner Tom Lyden of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Ryan and Jennifer Ohlerking, Angela and Paul Sargent and Daniel Thomas; and one brother, David and his wife Jean Ohlerking of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Don, and Damon Ohlerking.
