15 August 1922 - 4 March 2008
Husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, Leo Hubert Pick passed away at the age of 85 on Tuesday, March 4, the day of his 62nd wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his wife, Irene; children, Thomas, Linda, Stephen and Lori; sisters, Ronnie and Shirley; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Leo was born August 15, 1922, in Clarion, Iowa. He attended Multnomah College and served in the Army during World War II. In 1946, he married Irene Kledzik. Leo and Irene spent over 62 years in the Portland area, where Leo worked in the timber industry. He enjoyed fishing on Sauvie Island, going to the bowling alley, and doing crossword puzzles. For a time, Leo worked as a meat cutter as well, and was known for making the best barbecued ribs around! A longtime baseball fan, Leo coached Little League, and enjoyed watching baseball games on TV as well. He also enjoyed the many occasions he and Irene spent with their longtime friends, Phil and Zona Ruhl. His family remembers his way of saying grace at dinner that always brought laughs, his arguments with Phil about whether there was a Pope Leo to go with Pope Phil, and more recently, Sunday morning breakfasts of blueberry pancakes and burnt bacon.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association.
