Sandra Kay Northrop was born in Belmond, Iowa on November 9, 1936. She died peacefully in her sleep, on February 29, 2008. She is survived by her son Christopher Russell Matthes (wife Elizabeth) and her daughter Pamela Matthes Johnson (husband Brian) and their children Sophie & Isabel. Sandra had a life-long love of the ballet. She danced, professionally, with the Joffrey Ballet, was the dance critic for the Journal American and opened Redmond’s first dance studio. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Cedar Park Adult Family Home and Donna for the loving care and attention they gave to Sandra during her last years. A Celebration of Sandra’s Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Graham Visitor's Center in the Washington Park Arboretum. In lieu of flowers, Sandra’s family asks that donations in her memory be made to the Pacific NW Ballet.
