February 23, 2008HUMBOLDT — Janet Thorn, 66, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Humboldt, passed away February 21, 2008 at the Rolfe Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Janet is survived by her children, Billy (Sue) Preston of Fort Dodge, Brenda (Sheldon) Schnetter of Rolfe, Kelly (Jr.) Boeckholt of Rolfe, and Becky (Allan) Petersen of Fort Dodge; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; step father, Lloyd Fortner of Humboldt; brother, Norman “Bud” (Sandy) Sorenson of Humboldt; and sisters, Norma (Dick) Jergenson of Clarion, Gladys Olson of Clarion, and Melody Wagner of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Billy; second husband, Robert; infant son, Robert Allan; and grandson, Brandon Preston.
Janet Sorenson, the daughter of Morris and Lola (Summers) Sorenson, was born October 4, 1941 at Humboldt, Iowa. As a teenager, she moved with family to Ohio. She returned to Humboldt and on October 4, 1958, was united in marriage to Billy Preston. The couple made their home in Ohio, Indiana and Iowa, settling in Humboldt. Mr. Preston passed away in November of 1972 and Janet continued to maintain her home in Humboldt where she worked as a Nurses Aid in the nursing homes of Humboldt. She married Bill Thorn on April 10, 1974 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode and the couple made their home in Humboldt all of their married lives until his death in October of 1991. Janet then made her home at Fort Dodge where she continued her work as a nurse’s aid until retiring due to health concerns. She became a resident of the Rolfe Care Center on January 28, 2008. Janet enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, camping and fishing, playing bingo and trips to Mesquaki.
