Mildred E. Bascom, 96, a resident of Living Center West, died there Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, following an extended illness. Visitation: Sunday, Feb. 24, from 3 to 6 p.m., with a closing prayer at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Per family's request there will be no funeral services for the public. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Fred (Janet) Bascom of Tulsa, Okla., Kenneth Bascom of Washington, Iowa, and Ruth Bark of Ely, Richard (Shirley) Bascom, Eugene Bascom, Sarah (Lonny) Dravis, all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Bascom; two sons, Harold and Robert Bascom; and one son-in-law, Lowell Bark.

Mildred Elona Bascom was born March 19, 1911, in Goldfield, Iowa, to Jay and Jeanette Sheriff Davis. She was employed at Quaker Oats Co. for 21 years and was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Mildred worked alongside her husband on the family farm and worked other jobs as she raised her family. She was a very hard worker. When Mildred was younger she played piano in Iowa City for the silent movies. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Hospice or Tanager Children's Home.
