CLEAR LAKE - Dorothy Williams, 93, of Clear Lake, formerly of Meservey and Thornton, died Saturday, (Feb. 2, 2008) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at First United Methodist Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Rose Calderon-Khan presiding. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. today at Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, Thornton. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in memory of Dorothy.

Dorothy Arloine (Rounds) Williams was born on Dec. 21, 1914, in Eagle Grove to Charles and Dell (McVicker) Rounds. She went to school in Eagle Grove and Dows and graduated from Dows High School. Dorothy married Merle Williams on December 25, 1936 in Eagle Grove in the house she was born in. They farmed in the Dows area and in 1948 moved to a farm they purchased near Meservey. They lived there until they retired and moved into Thornton. Dorothy moved into an assisted living apartment in Clear Lake then the Oakwood Care Center in August 2006.

Immediate family includes daughter, Beverly (Eldon) Zieman, Meservey; son, Donald (Cher) Williams, Olympia, Wash.; daughters, Barbara (Jim) Faith, Selah, Wash., Bonnie (Mark) Marshall, Garner; 10 grandchildren: David (Lucinda) Zieman, Douglas (Tina) Zieman, Debra Love and friend, Bob Webush, Ronda (Mark) Fredrickson, Julie (Bill) Ring, Dorothy Gray, Frank (Tracy) Marshall, Jessie (Randy) Freerks, Chad (Melissa) Faith and Jennifer (Kevin) Fuller; 20 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ethel Williams, Iowa Falls, Ileen Garnsey, Morning Sun, Iowa, Joan King, Balaton, Minn.; brother, Virgil (Christy) Rounds, Knoxville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Pat Rounds, Manchester; brother-in-law, Harlan Johnson, Mason City, and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Merle; and her parents; one sister, Mary Jean Johnson; four brothers: Ralph Rounds, Wayne Rounds, Chester Rounds and Gerald as a toddler, and grandson, Daryl Zieman. Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, Thornton.
