ROWAN - Burneil "Punk" Jones, 77, of Rowan, Iowa died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2008) at Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services for Burneil Jones will be held 10:30 a.m. today, at the United Church of Rowan with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, and one hour prior to services today at the church.

Burneil, the son of Earl and Cecil Clare (Brannan) Jones, was born June 11, 1930, on the family farm north of Dows. He attended country school and later Rowan Schools, graduating from Rowan High School in 1948. Following graduation, Burneil farmed with his father and brothers. On Oct. 8, 1950, Burneil was united in marriage to Darline Osborn. The couple farmed and lived near Rowan, Coulter and north of Dows. They moved into Rowan in 1982 but continued to farm until 1994 when they retired. Burneil was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. They were the apples of his eye. He was very involved in Rowan where he was a past member the Lions Club, former mayor of Rowan and a current City Council member. He was very proud of the completion of the new library. He held various offices in the United Church of Rowan and the Wright County Landfill. He also volunteered at the Belmond Hospital. Burneil enjoyed farming with Randy and Eugene Frohling and working at Aldrich Tree Farm.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darline; son Gene and wife, Karyl, of Huxley; daughter, Susan and husband, Doug Anderson, of Long Grove; and four grandchildren: Emily Rockafellow (Ryan) of North Liberty, Ben Anderson of Bettendorf, Chelsea Anderson of Waverly, and Nathan Jones of Huxley. Burneil is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister and one son, Burneil Jr. Dugger Funeral Homes.
