Funeral services for Ralph Waldo Patton will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Claremore, Oklahoma. Friends may visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Ralph was born in Rowan, Iowa, Feb. 8, 1907, and was 95 years at the time of his death. Ralph was of Irish descent and was the typical patriarchal storyteller of the family. Many of his stories long will be remembered by family and friends. He was proud of the fact that he had been gardening since the age of 4. This past spring, he planted his 91st garden, which he tilled, sowed and canned the produce from himself. Ralph was a skilled auctioneer and had considerable knowledge in the field of nutrition, which he practiced and shared with others. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Patton; parents, Earl and Grace Patton; and sister, Violet Lange. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Harry Janssen of Waverly, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Loretta Patton of Claremore; grandchildren, Patricia Berry and husband, Stephen of Verona, Wis., Steven Janssen and wife, Rhonda of Plainfield, Iowa, Douglas Janssen and wife, Michelle of Mason City, Iowa; Dawn Owens and husband, Danny of Adair, Dr. Tracy Patton and wife, Rachel of Claremore, and Kammie Bynum and husband Dennis of Tulsa; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of very special friends, including George and Sandra Daniels.
