Born Aug. 15, 1921, in Eagle Grove, she was the daughter of Arthur and Ruby Warren Steeples. On Dec. 25, 1941, she married Clark Cummings in Fort Madison. They later divorced. Mrs. Cummings was a clerical worker at Sheaffer Pen Co. She was a member of Calvary First Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday school for 35 years. She volunteered at Fort Madison Community Hospital and also at Richardson School. She was an avid reader of the Bible.Survivors include one daughter, Carol Robbins of Fort Madison; one son, Roger Cummings of Moscow, Idaho; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Duane Steeples of Quincy, Ill., and Ronald Steeples of Arbela, Mo.; two sisters, Cora Luder of Burlington and Deanna Iverson of Mount Pleasant; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, with family meeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Cummings will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at King-Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison. A memorial has been established for Calvary First Assembly of God Church.
