January 8, 2008Martin (Mike) Johnson, 94, formerly of Jewell died Friday, Jan. 4, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. He deeded his body to the University of Iowa; burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.
Martin Luther (Mike) Johnson was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Dows, to Ede A. and Augusta (Eiben) Johnson. He attended country school and grew up in the Dows area. He married Clarice Smith June 29, 1935. They farmed south of Kamrar. He was proud of the Holstein cows he raised. Clarice died June 19, 1968. He married Anna Marie (Johnson) Baldus July 1, 1977. They moved to Jewell in 1979. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Lions Club in Jewell. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He had a great disposition and wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, of Cedar Place in Story City; one son, Steven Johnson, of Hawarden; two daughters, Susan (Gary) Hudson, of Boone, and Shannon (Ronnie) Craig, of Malcolm; many grandchildren; and four stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clarice; four brothers, Peter, Walter, John and Frank; and one stepson, Richard Baldus.
Memorials may be given to the family for use at their discretion. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
