March 14, 1971 - June 22, 2002

DUMONT-Paul Gregory Smith, 31, of Dumont, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City of injuries received in a motorcycle accident near Dumont. Services will be held Wednesday, June 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hampton with burial in the Dumont Cemetery. Rev. Douglas Tharpe and Rev. Michael Shaffer will officiate.

Paul was born March 14, 1971, at Belmond to Maynard and Ruby Anderson Smith. He attended Dumont High School and on May 23, 1992, he married Betty Mejia in Dumont. Paul worked as a welder at Seabees Corporation (Kadon) in Hampton. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, was an avid motorcycle rider and belonged to the ABATE motorcycle group. He enjoyed bow hunting and all other types of hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Dumont; two daughters, Alicia and Alysia, of Dumont; his mother, Ruby Smith, of Mason City; two sisters, Shirley McLaughlin and husband Paul of Belmond and Sheila Trunkhill and husband Thomas of Mason City; a brother, Marlin Smith, and wife Darcy of Dumont; and 16 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his father. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton is in charge of arrangements.
