MAVIS ELAINE DENGER -- Ankeny
[nee Vandervort]

Mavis Denger went to be with her savior on November 22, 2007. She passed away quietly in bed, at her home in Ankeny, IA. Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm Monday, November 26, 2007 at Ankeny Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Ankeny Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Dows, IA next to her husband at 2:30 pm on Tuesday.

Mavis was born on October 10, 1923 in Dows, Iowa. She graduated from Dows and married her high school sweetheart, Tom Denger. She remained married to Tom for 63 years until his death on November 21, 2005. Mavis and Tom had 4 boys. Steve (Karen) and Mike of Panora, IA, Ed (Doreen) of rural Bondurant, IA, and Chuck (Kelly) from Des Moines, IA. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Tim, David, Mike, Dixie, Jenna, and Tiffany. She also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Tom, granddaughter Deanna, sister Mert, Mother Josephine, brother, Glen and father Eugene.

Mavis worked for years as a cook at Faith Baptist College in Ankeny, Iowa. The work was hard, but she loved the people and the college. Later in her life she worked at Wal-Mart in Ankeny, IA. She enjoyed the people and the company. Wal-Mart was good to her. Mavis loved her family and would do anything she could to help. Mavis cared for her dying sister with A.L.S. and also cared for her mother until her death. Just month's before Mavis's death she also visited and cared for her granddaughter Deanne who had cancer. She loved her family and it showed. Mavis would visit the sick and dying who needed love and compassion. It was one of her best ministries. Mavis was a member of Ankeny Baptist Church for over 40 years. She loved the church and all the people she met over the years. Thank You! The family will miss her love, kind words and deeds. Thank You Mom! Also, thanks to all that loved and helped Mavis during her life, she loved you and may God bless! Memorial Donations can be made in her name to Faith Baptist College in Ankeny, IA.
