Sioux City Journal, IowaSOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Horace "Hod" Black, 93, of South Sioux City, formerly of Farnhamville, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Church in Farnhamville, with the Rev. Crystal Oberheu officiating. Burial will be in Reading Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie, Iowa.
Horace Black was born July 22, 1910, in Knierim, Iowa, and attended school in Barnum, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Estle Parsons on Nov. 24, 1934, in Rowan, Iowa. They farmed in the Knierim and Farnhamville areas, retiring in 1977. They later moved into Farnhamville, then to South Sioux City in 1992. He was a member of First United Church in Farnhamville.
Survivors include his wife, Estle of South Sioux City; a son and his wife, Paul and Sherry Black of South Sioux City; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Abbey (Bakey) Black; three brothers, Lloyd, Harley and Claude Black; and a sister, Rose.
