CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Margaret Eleanor Midland, 74, of Cherokee died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a brief illness. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Gregg Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Midland was born March 9, 1928, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Archie and Vernita (Miller) Willard. She attended school in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1946. On Aug. 31, 1947, she married Lyle Midland in Eagle Grove. They moved to Cherokee in 1949. She received her bachelor degree in art education from Buena Vista College in 1974. She was a talented artist and participated in many juried art shows from 1958 to 1980. She was curator of exhibits in the Sanford Museum from 1955 to 1959. She taught art in the Meriden-Cleghorn School system form 1977 to 1979. She participated in the Minnesota Renaissance Festival from 1981 to 1992 and was currently the owner of Spring Hill Garden Gallery. She served in the Iowa Arts Council and had her work displayed in many area art shows. She was also actively involved with the Cherokee Community Theater for many years.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Jim Kollman of Denison, Iowa, and Diane and Richard Wagner of Atlanta, Ga.; a son and his wife, Tom and Kerry Midland of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren, Nate Judson and Elizabeth Judson McIntire and Molly, Tyler and Kelli Midland; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Will and Lydia Rose; a sister and her husband, Arlene and John Harrigan of Glendale, Calif.; and a brother and his wife, Archie and Wanda Willard of Eagle Grove.
