PELLA - Nellie (Tibboel) Rashell went to be with the Lord on Oct. 30, 2007, at 2:30 a.m. at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella. Nellie was born May 23, 1923, in Eagle Grove, the daughter of the late Martin and Maggie (Stam) Tibboel. She graduated from the Warren Grove Grade School in 1936, and after two years enrolled at Pella Christian High School, graduating with the class of 1942. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., for one year and continued her education by taking summer courses at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Central College in Pella, and Northwestern College in Flagstaff, Ariz. Nellie taught school for 10 years, starting in 1943 - three years at Peoria Christian School in Peoria, three years at Zuni, N.M., and four years at Skeets School on the Navajo reservation, the last seven years under the auspices of the Christian Reformed Mission Board. Nellie was united in marriage with Jerry Rashell on May 23, 1953, in San Saba, Texas. They lived in Texas most of their married life. No children were born to this union. Jerry was employed by several construction companies including Brown, Root and Zachery. Due to his work, many moves took place. Nellie worked for various companies, being employed by I.B.M. and other places of business doing accountingand secretarial work. Jerry and Nellie attended several different Baptist churches. Nellie could often be found busy in the Lord's work - teaching Sunday school classes, facilitating small group Bible studies, and one of her great loves was visiting those in the hospital, nursing homes, and the homebound. After her husband's death she moved from Arlington, Texas to Bertram, Texas, to be near her in-laws, and was instrumental in caring for both her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin and Arlyne Wilder, for several years before their deaths. Nellie moved back to Pella, her "old stomping grounds", in July 2006, to be with siblings, their families and old time friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Clarence, Frank, Gerrit, Theodore and Herman; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Erma) Tibboel; and two brothers-in-law, Andrew Van Zee and Tunis Verschuure. She is survived by three sisters, Ann Van Zee of Pella, Cornelia Verschuure of Pella, and Margaret (Stan) Mulder of Otley; two brothers, Harry (Cornelia) Tibboel of Pella, and John (Helen) Tibboel of Prairie City; also three sisters-in-law, Martha Tibboel of Fremont, Mich., Martha Tibboel of Los Alamos, N.M., and Ruth Tibboel of Des Moines; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews and a host offriends. Nellie's body has been cremated and her remains will be buried with her husband at Brownwood, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Pella, with Pastor Jon Heikes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wycliffe Bible Translators, the World Home Bible League, or the Hospice of Pella.
