BELMOND — Arlene K. Wicks, 81, of Belmond, formerly of Eagle Grove, passed away Thursday (October 18, 2007) in Mason City. Funeral services for Arlene Wicks will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove at 1:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Visitation for Arlene Wicks will be held today, Sunday, Oct. 21, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South, in Belmond, and continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.

Arlene, the daughter of Arthur and Olava (Krogevold Johnson) Wampler was born on Nov. 1, 1925 in Holmes. She graduated from Clarion High School. Arlene met Paul Wicks while they were employed at the hemp plant in Eagle Grove. The couple were married on May 5, 1946, in South Carolina, and made their home in Eagle Grove, where they raised their six daughters. Arlene loved singing, playing and listening to music, she also enjoyed roller skating and going for rides with Paul on the Harley. She also enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She was a hard worker who enjoyed canning and gardening. Arlene thoroughly enjoyed teaching children; she lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with people especially family; she was very selfless, and always there when you needed her. Arlene was a big historian especially when it came to family history. Arlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond where she was involved in the Ladies Circle. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and spoke fluent Norwegian.

Arlene is survived by six daughters: Oynalice and husband, Bill Wright, of Clarion, Susanne and husband, Bill Rink of Tucson, Ariz., Patricia and husband, Mike Henely of Tucson, Ariz., Carol and husband, Chuck Gaster of Mesa, Ariz., Denise and husband, Jim Killius of Mason City, Robin and husband, Jack Williams of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Donna Wolff of Clarion, Rogene Jones of Eagle Grove; one brother, Art Wampler of Montgomery, Ill., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Olava; husband Paul; and two grandsons: Brent Wright and Curt Rink. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South, Belmond.
